My current role is that of a Service Impact Assessor. This means that EVERY IT project involving my client's infrastructure has to be assessed to determine the impact it will have on the support organisations. This allows us to put appropriate governance in place to ensure each project will go live smoothly.
I really enjoy working with many different stakeholders on a day to day basis. Working directly alongside the client at all levels has allowed me to develop my communication skills and has greatly improved my confidence. I have also had the opportunity to study for ITIL certification.
I decided to join the degree apprenticeship because I wanted to gain practical work experience in my chosen field. The ability to 'earn while you learn' was hugely important to me and it has certainly not disappointed. I have been able to study for my degree whilst also earning a healthy wage and not getting myself into heaps of student debt.
Capgemini really takes their employees into consideration at all levels. When joining such a large corporation, it is also a worry that you may go unnoticed. However, Capgemini really value the Graduate and Apprentice community and are keen on giving us more responsibility and helping us develop personally and professionally so that, in turn, we may help Capgemini deliver excellence to our clients.
The programme is very well structured. We went through an initial week induction directly with the GAP team and then a subsequent three month training period whereby we were able to kickstart our learning whilst also jumping directly into the workplace and starting to network. We receive on going support from our GAP team and they are always there to help should we have any issues.
I study my degree with Aston University and they are absolutely fantastic. I am studying for the business degree and my ABS tutors have always been willing to help me wherever possible, many going above and beyond. Similarly, if ever we have queries or issues relating to the programme itself, the university is always there to help.
We receive ongoing support from our business units in order for them to help us drive our own career. They fully appreciate that we have commitments to our studies as well as our daily roles and are therefore happy to work with us to provide support when we need to attend training courses and other GAP related activities.
I have to travel to a client site on a daily basis and therefore incur travel expenses. Despite being classed as an 'apprentice', we are (and are certainly treated as) full time employees and as such benefit from great expense policies that allow us to travel with work without the worry of paying for travel and accommodation. My salary therefore more than covers my standard living costs and allows me to focus on my work and studies without financial worries.
There is a great GAP community that are always looking to participate in opportunities outside of work. From charity football matches to joining in with the Palace 2 Palace bike ride and more, there are many opportunities for us to network with colleagues whilst also socialising and helping contribute towards fantastic causes.

I would absolutely recommend Capgemini to anyone wishing to apply for a degree apprenticeship. The structure and support provided from both our GAP teams AND the business, coupled with the fantastic team at Aston University means that we are able to kickstart our careers in IT. It provides the perfect opportunity to earn while you learn, giving you real, practical work experience and keeping you free from any student debts!
My advice would be to research Capgemini's values and mission/goals. Really dig deep into what Capgemini, as a company, stands for and make sure that you are someone that can help promote these values and uphold the standards we require. I would also recommend being confident in yourself and your abilities. Assessment centres and interviews can certainly be nerve-wracking but don't be afraid to showcase your abilities and be proud of what you have achieved!
