Helping out with the Track Qualtity supervisors. Office based work and night based work is involved. Night work involves marking up before tamping, stoneblowing and other types of work such as cant painting. The office based work is to help out anyone within the depot and also to get our NVQ's and other work to be completed for the apprenticeship scheme.
yes i have learnt lots of different skills whilst in the office and on the tracks. I have learnt a lot about the planning process for arrising work. I have also learnt a lot about track work such as inspections and maintanance work. I will carry on learning new things as i progress through my career.
I really enjoy this programme as i am learning new things everytime i come to work. I have switched through depots to try out new types off work, for example i have done off track work and now i am doing PWAY and tech work. i also enjoy the type of work i am doing as it is very intereting.
I feel quite valued when working for network rail. i feel like i am kept quite busy and there are always jobs to do, weather that means working on the tracks or in the office. I feel respected whilst working for newtork rail. I feel like i help other people out and also people help me out.
The programme seems to be well oragnised. The deadlines for things such as NVQ's are always made aware to me to ensure i get them handed in on time. Also it is well structured and dates for travelling down to portsmouth are kept to and the programme makes sure we get all of our work in portsmouth completed.
I feel like i get a lot of suuport from my training provider. There are courses such as the ILM course which are added on to better our education as an apprentice getting us ready to be team leaders. Also, they make sure all our work is up to date and is to a really good standard.
i feellike i get a lot of support from network rail as a whole. Network rail makes ure apprentices are getting the education they need to better themselvs to eventually get a job in the industry. They also help out apprentices and guide them through the apprenticeship scheme.
I think that my package is fairly reasonable. This is because i am still managing to save up some money i have earnt these past few years which tells me that i am earning enough as i am at the moment. I am also still living at home so i don not have a mortgage or anything like that.
Outside of my depot i would say that there are a fair few opportunities. I am kept updated by the use of the e-business suite which has all the jobs listed for certain areas. There are lists off diffferent types of jobs, such as office based jobs or trackside jobs.
Yes
I feel like network rail is a company that welcomes young people who have the potential to progress through the company and is willing to get work done and learn whilst doing it. I would recommend the network rail apprenticeship scheme to anyone.
One tipi would give is to try and get the work done as soon as possible, such as the NVQ's. this is because if you leave it last minute it will creep up on you and it will be a mad rush to get it done.
