I am a switch and transmission apprentice. Daily tasks involve maintenance work within the BT exchanges on the network equipment. I speak to my fellow team members daily and also the control who pin my jobs to me. I deal with external customers if I fix a customer fault.
I have been put through a BTEC qualification and also an SVQ. I have been placed on a variety of job related training courses such as: system X, AXE 10, transmission, splicing etc.
I have enjoyed it massively and I feel well equipped going into my future with BT.
I receive praise from my manager if I do something good. I am also part of the purposeful business team, a project ran within BT to raise awareness of purposeful business. My manager and tier 2 manager have both been very supportive.
It could have been more structured at the beginning, there wasn't really any curriculum i.e. what do you need to learn and when? As time has went on it has became more structured as BT has worked on developing its apprenticeship programme.
My SVQ coach has been excellent and really helpful. My team mates have been incredibly supportive giving me help when I ask for it and encouraging me to do well.

My apprenticeship salary allows me to live quite comfortably and save also. As I am an engineer I get a works van so there are no work related fuel costs.
There are always opportunities to do volunteering i.e. answering the phones for children in need and sports relief.
Yes
Great company to work for and there are opportunities to develop yourself and move up the company.
When you apply you do an online maths and English assessment. If successful they invite you to a HUB assessment day where you will receive an interview and do other exercises. If you are not successful at the HUB day there is nothing to stop you applying again because that is what I did.
