Craft Apprentice, Every 3 months we switch department which gives a good insight of all the different roles within the site, I am currently based in the machine shop so every day is different, for example I could be working on a Lathe one day, or doing bench work another.
I am continually learning and developing my skills, by starting the apprenticeship off with 6 months at college, then going to college on day release throughout the rest of my apprenticeship. I also develop and gain skills by working in different departments and working with new people.
I enjoy being an apprentice at Leonardo because I get new qualifications from college, while also going through 8 different departments and learning new skills. This also helps me find a department that is most suited to me so that hopefully I can get a final placement and work within that area of the site.
I feel as if I am appreciated by the company and that if I am ever struggling with anything internal or external to the company I can speak to someone like the apprentice manager. I also have been get ting involved with a variety of tasks and brought to different types of meetings so I do not feel left out
I think that the programme has a very good structure. We first of all get a 2/3 day induction within the site, and then we start at college for 6 months whilst our manager keeps in touch with reviews of our college progression. Upon our return to the company there is another 2 week long induction where we get presentations and activities provided from different departments that give us information on what type of work that they do. There is also support for us provided by the apprentice managers for things such as college if required.
If we are ever struggling with anything, we have lots of support that can be provided to us. And if we ever do ask for any type of support, the management team are always happy to help.

My salary suits all my living costs, travelling costs, daily costs and social costs. It also leaves a good amount of money to spend on myself such as clothing.
There are various amounts of external activities that we are able to take part on. There are lots of charity events that we are able to go to and take part in. There is also lots of visits to places like schools we are able to visit to help raise awareness off the apprenticeship programme
Yes
I would recommend Leonardo to a friend because it is a very interesting apprenticeship, with a job that could suit anyone. It is also a very friendly working environment.
When going to the Leonardo interviews, be confident and speak clearly, for the assessment days, be friendly to all the other potential apprentices so that you get the best start on the programme by already having some friends on the scheme.
