track maintenance technician, I inspect switches and crossings and carry out P-way activities like changing rails, lifting and packing changing sleepers
I have gained qualifications in railway infrastructure, I understand how the railway works on a daily bases and understand what needs to be done to keep it running, I have developed management skills by carrying out an ILM course while on the apprenticeship
coming into the second and third year I enjoyed learning all the different sections of the company and being out on the job learning while doing.
very I have not once been treated different to any other member of staff they treat us like part of the team and help us in anyway we need weather its to do with a job or work for the scheme
support and training is structured very well I do believe there should be more communication between the instructors and are line managers as some of the managers don't have a clue what we do on the apprenticeship
loads you can always get hold of someone weather it be via phone or email and they will always take the time to come and help you no matter what the time or what the issues
there is support from everyone in the work place from old apprentices from managers and team member's everyone looks out for everyone and helps with any problems or issues you might have
being an older apprentice I struggled with the first years salary as it was a massive pay cut but overall the for an apprenticeship the salary isn't to bad compared to others
being a member of network rail there is a website you can sign up to which gives employees discounts on days out, shops, holidays there is over 800000 discounts and money back deals through this site
Yes
I believe it is a good stable career which is exciting and different and will be able to set you up to building a great future for yourself
do a little bit of research on the company to give you an idea of the different sections of work i.e track, signals, e&p, telecoms etc just be yourself on the assessment days don't over think any thing
