This apprentice uses a rotational placement system that ensures that I experience all areas of the business. Currently I am working in material control, which moves around components to make sure the business continues production
For the first few months of the apprentice I worked in collage gaining several engineering qualifications and am now working towards earning a SVQ in engineering systems. Further to this my work in the business has also developed skills by working close to experienced professionals.
I highly enjoy the programme. The work is challenging without being overwhelming, the company culture is very positive and the people are very supportive.
I certainly feel valued as a part of Leonardo. I am deeply involved with tasks in the company and am delegated important jobs when both my and my supervisor believe I am ready.
The programme is very well structured. There is an extensive induction experience where the company is very clearly explained. Time is set aside for collage and there is a high amount of support from the higher levels.
During each placement I am assigned a supervisor. This supervisor provides education, support and jobs in the area. In addition the general attitude towards apprentices is very positive.
There are regular meetings with a HR representative who acts as our direct superior during the apprenticeship. These meetings provide guidance as well as acting as a performance assessment.
The salary is sufficient to cover all of my costs, personal or professional. Even when I have a significant distance to travel on public transport.
Leonardo's apprentices are encouraged and assisted to set up leisure events between ourselves. In addition to this we are also afforded the opportunity to help out at several charity events.
Yes
Leonardo provides an excellent employment experience for someone looking for a first job. It is an enjoyable experience that incorporates both extra education and experience well equipping apprentices for the future.
To any others that are applying to Leonardo I would say that teamwork and attitude are massively important. The correct mental preparation will see a strong bid for the position.
