Technical Apprentice My daily tasks change depending upon which placement I am in, for now my daily tasks involve running tests. I work with a team of Test engineers on a daily basis. My responsibilities involve ensuring I follow all company policies.
I have gained a variety of skill through my time in the company, as well as developed some skills I already had such as my ability to read drawings. I have also gained new qualifications, such as my PEO and my HNC in systems engineering. The company also run various internal courses such as awareness sessions.
The work can vary so depending on the type of work can vary how enjoyable it is, however overall I would say it is enjoyable. Throughout my time here I have always enjoyed working with the team I have been given. I'd say it did reach my expectations.
I feel in Leonardo I am highly appreciated. The company take a strong appeal to the apprenticeship programme. Also in the different departments you are well appreciated as typically most people were apprentices themselves.
The Leonardo apprenticeship scheme is very well structured and organised. There is a week induction at the beginning to make you aware of what you will be carrying out. The support is there from the guys you work with and also the apprentice team. There is monthly meetings with the apprentices to talk about any events or issues there are.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. This is done through regular meetings with my assessor and also my 12 week meetings with my manager. The apprentice team are always open to help support you.
From my manager I receive support through the 12 week meetings, where I can mention any issues, also if ever required I can go to his desk or just drop him an email and he will help me deal with the situation. My access to support is wide as there are various people I can approach and in many different ways.
My salary meets well with my costs, the costs I have to undertake are travelling from fife to Edinburgh, paying for living and then social costs and the apprentice wages cover that fine.
There are many opportunities outside of work such as not long ago I joined the STEM ambassadors group where I take part in encouraging school children in taking an interest into STEM subjects.
Yes
I have already recommended Leonardo to a friend and he is about to begin the programme in August. I would recommend it as the company are good at giving the apprentices good qualifications, good salary and good benefits.
Take your time when applying, the application process is quite long and difficult however there is an option to save your application and go back I recommend that as you can think better about the questions. Also the assessment centre is quite a lot to take on at once as there is testing, interviews, presentations and team work exercises, just remain calm throughout them all and don't let it get to you.
