I am a 360 KPMG apprentice involved in the firm wide rotation programmes that allows for us to make new rotations to different departments every six months for a period of three years. In my most recent tax role, I am mainly involved in working alongside more senior members in communicating with HMRC and handling client grievances towards HMRC handling of their accounts
During my first rotation I have been able to develop my skills in auditing, having worked on listed companies and smaller organisations. This experiences is now being boosted further with my rotation into the tax department. This invaluable experience is being developed around my ability to look at and understand tax computations. Being able to understand corporate tax has given me an idea of the differences between corporate tax and regular tax costs such as income tax. Finally, we have been trained extremely well in our networking skills
My programme is relatively new to the firm and I extremely enjoy it because the team ethic towards driving the firm forward is stand alone in my opinion. In addition, the balance between studying and working is making it possible for me to gain valuable work experience alongside gaining a professional qualification in a big four firm. As it is all sponsored, I am also saved from the financial burden of having to pay the fees towards my accounting qualification.
Very much so. I feel as though KPMG endeavours to treat us as normal employees in a manner of ways and this allows me to feel part of the team and valued.
The programme gave us a great deal of time training in Birmingham for a week and offers us a clear line of management with whom we can share any queries and concerns. In turn, our study with the BPP University is efficiently monitored and makes studying alongside working full time possible.
BPP University is very supportive and has a very user friendly portal from which we can practice for examinations. The training courses provided are informative and very well presented, allowing us to gain a head start towards any exams we may have.
KPMG supports us both on a business level and personal level by provided benefits such as health packages and cars plus business phones and laptops. On a personal level, schemes such as a 24/7 helpline for mental problems only serve as an indicator of their dedication to employee welfare.
My salary is very good considering I live on my own and find no problem managing the various costs I incur during the course of the month. Packages such as the car scheme also allow me to save a great deal of money on insurance.
Yes, they are a number of social groups within KPMG that are well managed and we are even offered six paid days off of work to do charitable work.
Yes
Mainly because KPMG has managed to make the almost perfect balance between work life and social events that allow for work to be a more pleasant experience.
During the interview stage I would advise that a person makes sure to research well into the main business focus for KPMG and makes it imperative that they bring a genuine approach to their interview stage if they are able to reach that stage.
