As I am on a rotational programme my placement changes every 6 months. I have just started my second placement in National Market Audit as an Audit Associate. My role involves testing clients processing to ensure they are working correctly and that the figures we have match the information on the systems. Daily interaction includes talking with Managers to what types of testing they would like you to carry out, in Audit there is also a lot of client facing interaction as often we are required to query certain aspects of their processes.
I am currently working towards my Level 3 AAT qualification, this has allowed me to gain a better understanding of company accounts and how debits and credits work. During my last placement I became more confident as I spent a lot of time in client meeting. My overall skills with excel have also improved as I use this daily.
I enjoy working for KPMG as there is a large support network and the colleagues I work with always are friendly and treat you with respect, regardless of what grade you are. I have enjoyed my programme more than I expected to. Although I knew I would enjoy the programme I was apprehensive about whether I would make friends as most people are older than me, this however has not been the case and I have made friend which I'm sure I will have for a long time.
I feel valued by KPMG as often managers will ask me for help with a project, or to get involved with client meetings. I am also frequently asked to help with recruiting which makes me feel respected as an apprentice as it shows that I am a good example of how KPMG wish to shape their apprentices. KPMG have a recognition scheme called encore, whilst I think this is a good idea I feel that it could be implemented more.
Our programme is structured well, we know how we should be progressing throughout the years of our apprenticeship. I do feel that it could be improved by giving us more notice of when things are talking place.
We receive a lot of support from our training provider. We receive regular reminders of the support we have around us. I feel that sometimes this is too much, and that it would be a more enjoyable experience if we made the decision on when to have more support.
KPMG offer lots of support. We all have a performance manager whom we can go to with any problems or queries, this is useful for general issues. Within our placements we each have people leaders who are their to offer support and guidance based on our placements.
I think my salary meets my living costs. When compared to others of a similar age I earn a very good salary. KPMG also have many benefits including a car scheme which makes this even better.
Outside of work we often have socials, this is a great way to meet new people. I also take part in volunteering through KPMG which I enjoy as it has shown me a different view on schools in deprived areas. KPMG also have many groups which have regular activities outside of work such as, sport and religious.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend as I think they have one of the best apprenticeship programmes in the industry. KPMG is a great place to work as it is a relaxed environment with a diverse range of employees who are willing to tale time to train and help you.
My top tip would be to be yourself. KPMG really care about diversity and so they are not looking for people who are the same. Make sure you know about the industry and have a general interest. KPMG aren't looking for people who are amazing at accounts, they want someone who is keen to learn.
