I was taken on as a manufacturing technician to assist with the day to day repairs, servicing and repairs of all the products we supply to the customers. I am also heavily involved with the new apprentice intake ensuring we get the right candidates in to ensure the people we get are interested in the work we do.
I have developed on a lot of existing skills especially my soldering skills. I have managed my own projects within manufacturing which allowed me to manage my own work load and also ensuring I was able to meet customer deadlines.
Although my programme wasn't well planned as I am now trying to assist the new apprentices and ensure that their plans go to plan I thoroughly enjoy it. It has given me a chance to re-train within a completely different industry.
I don't overly feel valued by Leonardo as a company as a whole I only feel valued by certain individuals as they see the work I carry out.
It wasn't well structured when I started but as Im now involved with the new apprentice intake I am putting in the effort to ensure this doesn't happen to them.
My new training provider provides me with all the right support right from chasing certificates all the way to ensure that I am attending college
The support from the employer is quite good they set you up with a buddies team at the start these are older apprentices who can help you through with any issues your find. They have a mentor scheme should you need one. They tend to support you in your decisions and if you want to follow a particular route they will try and accommodate this.
It is above the average apprentice salary.
There are plenty of social and sporting events to get involved with, due to the location of Leonardo there is a sports place located around 5-10 minutes away which they use for the sporting events. Locally there is a gym within Capability Green
Yes
Although my experience hasn't been that great I can now see how good it would be to someone now it has developed.
Do some research about the company see if this interests you, see if you can apply for work experience to come in for a week over the summer holidays to see if it interests you. Leonardo offers plenty of opportunities if you work hard, they are willing to provide you with the rite training for the job should you require it.
