As a Technical Apprentice, day-to-day activities involve liaising with my departmental supervisor, as well as other members of the team, in order to gauge the progress and development requirements for a specific project. At this point, daily responsibilities are delegated. Usually, I will assist engineers in their roles which often involve investigating and testing various company products.
Through my apprenticeship, I have already gained a Level 2 SVQ in "Performing Engineering Operations" and feel I am well on my way to gaining my HNC in "Engineering Systems" as well as my Level 3 SVQ in "Engineering Technical Support". Various training opportunities and awareness sessions are available within the workplace which allows me to work to company standards and keep me safe whilst doing so.
Working with cutting edge technology alongside very intelligent individuals that are keen to impart their wisdom makes every day enjoyable. My expectations for the apprenticeship were very high to begin with and thus far, those expectations have been greatly surpassed.
All good work is recognised to some extent, whether it is from a supervisor, manager or the company as a whole. The scale of the recognition is usually reflective of the level of work which has been carried out or the standard to which the work has been completed. Every opportunity is given to ensure some kind of involvement in company & apprentice projects and everyone is encouraged to voice their thoughts.
The overall organisation from the online application process, to the assessment centre, all the way through to the induction days was flawless. All of the information required for the four month full-time period at college prior to coming into the business was relayed concisely & clearly via the appropriate formats. The day release programme following this period effectively allows the HNC and SVQ to be completed simultaneously. The support at college was constant and readily accessible. Within the workplace, quarterly one-to-one reviews with the apprentice managers, as well as monthly year group meetings & quarterly all apprentice meetings keep everyone on the scheme well informed and on track.
The level of support provided is second to none. There is no problem too big or too small. No question is a stupid one. Everyone is happy to help.
As above.
With my salary I am able to cover all financial obligations & commuting costs, add to my savings and still have money left over for socialising & buying new things.
There is a plethora of initiatives/events/clubs available out with the workplace. All that is required is the enthusiasm and willingness to take part.
Yes
For the vast opportunities the company provides as well as the support network available throughout the apprenticeship scheme. I doubt there are many better apprenticeships in Scotland.
Be confident and relax. The company want to be sure they get the best from you throughout all stages of your application. The interviewers are conscious of the fact that you're not likely to have a great deal of interview experience and will help you through it!
