My position (Assistant Associate) involves working within an audit team, sometimes at a client site, to certify that the figures the client present are in fact correct. This involves testing them by checking invoices, bank statements, recalculating accruals/prepayments, etc.
I am also at college for my ACCA qualification so am learning accounting off-the-job. On the job I am learning IT skills, how to audit different balances, communication skills and time management qualities.
The work can sometimes be tricky and tiring but I do find it interesting. Plus, the people at work are fantastic and make the job enjoyable.
I feel valued at work due to different managers on different jobs always checking how I am doing and supporting me on any questions I have. Also, I have been allocated a mentor and an appraiser who also looks out for me. Feedback also allows me to see where I can improve and recognises any areas which I have done well.
My programme is very organised. There was induction training when I first joined, college to help train me up, great support networks and always help available if I have any queries.
My training provider was very helpful when I am at college. They provide great guidance in the areas we study and have good material to learn from. It is an enjoyable break from work.
I receive great support from my employer. I am allocated a mentor and an appraiser to look out for me but everyone is very helpful if I have any queries. I am confident I would know who to approach if I was struggling with anything work or personal related.
My salary satisfactorily meets my current living/travel/social costs.
Yes. I am already involved in different clubs outside work and plenty of opportunities to get involved in others if I was interested.
Yes
It has great people who look out for you and make work enjoyable. The support networks are fantastic and they allow us to study for my accounting qualification in work time rather than my own time. There is also a lot of fun happening outside of work.
Don't feel nervous to ask any questions you have about joining if you are unsure (i.e. maybe you might want to go to Uni). Prepare for each step of application, ask any contacts you may have for help, and get involved in any work experience or open days.
