Apprentice Railway Engineering Technician Review

I am an Apprentice Engineering Technician and my job is to help produce engineering drawings to be used in the design and construction of a structure.

I have learnt to use the CAD software Microstation and other work based skills as well as currently working towards a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering and an NVQ.

I enjoy the programme very much as it allows me to learn while i work picking up lots of new skills and keeping my brain active.

I feel very valued by Arup and recieve recognition verbally from colleagues and in team wide emails.

It is well organised and there is always lots of support available if required.

I recieve lots of support from my training provider as they visit every six weeks to check up on how i am getting on.

I recieve as much support as i require from my employer and they are always looking for ways to help me develop further.

The salary pack compared to other apprenticeships is good, however, i feel that apprentices are slighlty underpaid as a whole as we are required to work a full days work and then complete a large amount of college work outside of working hours.

There are always many events being advertised in company wide emails with a variety of talks and social avtivities.

They are a very proffessional organisation that are dedicated to helping apprentices thrive and develop and are very supportive.

Make sure that you do your research into what the different disciplines offered entail as they often involve lots of different styles of design so it is best to apply for the role that interests you most.
