Logistics Technician: I do 3 month placements in all logistics departments. I will also do placements in non logistics areas to gain a full understanding of the business. Depending on the department, i will carry out daily tasks delegated to me by team members but i am also involved in projects that the team are doing.
I have gained a Level 3 NVQ Business Administration qualification during my first year as an apprentice. In my second and third year i will gain a foundation degree. I am also scheduled to go on training courses related to indurstial engineering
I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship so far. I have been welcomed into every team i have been a part of and have been fully utilised.
I feel that BMW values apprentices greatly. Many of my collegues were apprentices and have progressed through the company. I have placement reviews with department managers during which i am given positive feedback and told i have been a valuable member of the team.
Currently the structure of my placments is not that good. It is not made very clear which department i am going to moving into next until a week or two before. However, there are people working to change this now that i have found a role that i will hopefully move into once my apprenticeship is complete. I now have a specific department that is interested in my apprenticeship who are making a detailed plan for my furture.
My training provider is very supportive. I am completly comfortable going to my training provider for help or advise. She is always avaiable to answer any questions i have and helps solve any problems i face.
In my experience manager support has been mixed. Some managers are very helpful and interested in your apprenticeship. Some dont make enough time for their actual department members let alone apprentices.
I recieve a good salary for an apprenticeship level role, and that salary inceases every 6 months depending on behaviour and performance. My salary meets my costs.
At the start of my apprenticeship there was a company hosted activity weekend. All apprentices from UK BMW Plants got together to meet all the new starters, complete team building activities and have fun. The company aims to repeat this actitiy with the same people at the end of out apprenticehsips.
Yes
The BMW apprenticeship scheme is very good. There are so many benefits for apprentices working for the company, apprentices are greatly valued here and the opportunites are endless.
Take your time with the intial application. It involves a few long winded questions but dont be put off by this, it is worth it. Research what goes on during assesment days and be fully prepared. Be confident during your interviews. Make the most of opportunites that are presented to you.
