My role involved researching and suggesting possible companies to become clients of CGI if they have been the victims of some sort of cyber attack in the past and was tasked with looking at what impact if any it had on their business and tried to find out why they were targeted.
I did not receive any formal qualifications however gained experience within the cyber security industry and spending some time within one of biggest cyber security companies in the country I have learnt about how some of the areas within the company operate such as how they contact and choose what businesses they would like to become their client as well as what services they can offer to businesses that are prone to being hacked.
I did thoroughly enjoy the programme and all the staff I came across were really welcoming and supportive to me in such a new and different environment. I believe they were really into giving me a valuable experience that I would remember but believe it could have been a little longer.
I feel quite valued by the people I worked with at CGI they would praise me and point out any exceptional efforts I had made but relating to the project I completed I did not get any feedback nor did anyone look through the project which I felt was not a good point as I had put a lot of effort and work into the project and to not have anyone even look at it almost seemed like a waste.
The induction and initial training given was good and everything seemed to be organised. However the structure of the programme was not very organised as after a few days there was no real indication on what the next step was and after submitting my project there was no response or reply at all.
There was not a whole lot of support from them as it seemed like it was just another box to tick for them and did not seem like they cared about how we did or what experience or skills we would gain.
There was a good amount of support from CGI at the start but they seemed to loose touch after the initial contact as there would not be the right people available to talk to when we needed them. There could have been dedicated work experience staff to deal with us.
This was not a paid roll however the travel costs were marginal as it is only a 6 mile drive from my house and the local bus and rail services are cheap too as the CGI offices I was at were located next to Birmingham International Airport which has really good transport links.
Not really there has been no contact from the company ever since and there has been nothing to follow up on this experience. However they do have apprenticeships which I have applied for and doing work experience at CGI will hopefully help my changes of getting an apprenticeship with them.
Yes
I would recommend CGI to a friend as the experience and inside knowledge I have received is very valuable to me as it has really helped to boost my skills set and also has a positive impact on my CV and getting information on how CGI works behind the scene is a big plus point for those interested in IT and cyber security.
The application is simple however you should not keep it boring you should really go into detail about your passion of IT and what field within IT you are really into. You should also show a keen interest throughout the programme and initial stages to get the attention of the staff which could lead to further progression within the company.
