As an Account Manager my day to day role consists mainly of cold calling into accounts and also managing the accounts I have broken into it. Also having to communicate with vendors and distribution in order to offer the best service and price to customers
I have gained more technical knowledge since starting my apprenticeship, I am more confident in talking around IT and the specialist areas, I have also gained negotiating skills and communicational skills.
I get on well with my work colleagues and feel valued by Softcat to an extent.
I feel that I am valued well by Softcat in general and am reward fairly compared to my achievements.
My programme is managed fairly however there are areas which could be improved, for example when handing in assignments to our training provider, they sometimes take a while to get back to say whether we have passed the assignment or have had it referred.
I meet with my training provider once a month to go over what I need to do to complete the apprenticeship. This is beneficial however when not meeting with my training provider it can be hard to get hold of them over the phone
I receive a good amount of support from my employer. My apprenticeship manager is very informative and is always on hand to help me progress.
The basic salary is good for an apprenticeship however the commission structure for an apprentice is different to a full time account manager. Instead of getting commission monthly we get it every 3 months.
There are endless opportunities outside of work to get involved with company events. Softcat put on a huge amount of parties which are used to motivate staff to work harder, also vendors are very keen on offering incentive trips abroad if account managers can help to sell their product/services.
Yes
I would recommend Softcat to a friend as it is a great place to work and to help learn and expand your IT knowledge and progress as an employee.
I would advise others to be confident when going through the interview process and to always give your best to prove you are worthy of the role.
