I was given a role as an LCM Engineer. This involved using CAD and CAM in the production of parts that were going to be fitted onto the wings of the Airbus planes.
I developed my communication skills by interacting with the other employees and discussing my desings and how the system worked. I learnt how to take a brief and transfor that into a design. I also learnt the importance of time keeping and getting work done to deadlines
I really enjoyed my time at Airbus and I feel like I gained multiple skills and learnt a lot about the industry and where I wanted to take my futur education.
I felt like Airbus treated me similar to the rest of the emplyees when I was there. I was obviously given easier tasks and helped through some things at the start but I feel like I was part of the team.
The program was very well structured and I feel like I was given the right amount of work to complete along with different tours of the factory and different ares of the site.
I recieved a lot of support from the training provider when I needed help familiarising myself with the site and the equipment and the software that I was using.
The employer sent me various booklets and handouts to get me prepared for the week and all of the students there on work experience were given a full tour and talk by some of the top teams in the company.
This was a free work experience, but I did have to travel to and from the site without being given expenses for fuel, but I feel like I gained enough to validate having to pay for the travel expenses
There were various options to apply for apprenticeships and graduate schemes which I was thinking of doing but there were no other opportunities to do anything else.
Yes
I feel like I gained a lot from my one week of work experience so I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking of doing it. I would also encourage poeple to apply for the apprenticeships there as they appeard to be very well organised and good for people who dont want to take the route into university.
I would advise people to be themselves and to be enthusiastic about going there so they can make the most of the great opportunity they have.
