  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I worked in the Audit Department. On a day to day basis I would be with an audit group at a client site. I worked on the simpler parts of the Audits such as testing Payroll, Accounts Recievable and Cash. I had a lot of responsibility considering my lack of experience but received a lot of support from employees above me.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt many new skills. I spent 2 weeks at college learning the basics in Account and Assurance. I began to understand the internal workings of large companies as well as developing my client facing skills. Other skills I developed were organisation, time management and ability to perform under pressure and deal with stress.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although I found the programme very challenging at times, I was amazed at everything I learnt and was able to implement in a real life situation over such a short period of time. I enjoyed working in an environment with much older colleagues, and found that I could easily get along with them without feeling younger of more inexperienced.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Deloitte?
  • Deloitte made sure that you stuck by their values and that you were able to contact them with any concerns or worries. I did sometimes feel however that my managers forgot just how inexperienced I was and expected a little too much of me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was very well organised with around 25 others on the same programme across the country. We had events where we would all meet up as well as a 2 day induction away at a hotel before we started. They have been good at meeting my requests when it comes to work placements this summer.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I felt I received enough support to be getting by, however at times, especially in my office my training provider was poor at answering my questions over email.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Even though Deloitte is one of the biggest financial firms in the world, I was suprised by how much support I got as an individual. If I ever felt out of my debt I could say, and my efforts were rewarded with good praise and small bonuses.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary was very competitive, and as I was still living at home made the long days very worth it and allowed me to go travelling for two months afterwards. Deloitte also provide a small bursary each year.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

  • 9. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has allowed me to go to university with many new skills as well as not having to worry about trying for very competitive internship places in summer time. It is also very well received with university lecturers and has helped me in my degree of Economics.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Ensure that you are able to commit to long days in the office, and cope well under high levels of pressure. I applied not believing that I would complete the application process so if you are doubting yourself, just give it a go!
