I work in the nuclear safety group who are responsible for the safe operation and management of the nuclear reactor. My role involves running calculation and modelling codes on bespoke software, interpreting complex data and offering advice to operational staff.
Learnt how to use the before mentioned bespoke software but have also learned more general applications of maths into a real world situation.
I love it and will hopefully be able to secure a place on the graduate scheme and work for the company in the future.
Very! I'd like to think I've made a difference to the department and they've appreciated my contributions.
On the university side it is very structured however the role itself is entirely dependent on the operation of the station so emergent faults etc impact day to day working
A great deal - I am supported to get involved in any training I deem useful
They are great at spending time to make sure I'm comfortable with the work I am given and are willing to explain in details things I don't understand
It is a reasonable salary
Not that I've be experienced yet
Yes
It's rewarding and challenging
Read up on the company ahead of applying and have a relatively sound technical knowledge
