  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I accomplished work experience at McDonalds Head Office in London. I worked alongside many teams including the Head of the Sustainability, Press Officers in Communications, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain department. Tasks included: creating press releases, emailing MPs, and taking part in Cross Functional Team meetings concerning how McDonalds UK is run. I was trusted with performing tasks that do affect how the company is run, which gave me a great insight into how large companies operate

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I was trusted with performing tasks that do affect how the company is run, which gave me a great insight into how large companies operate, also learnt that McDonalds is a well-run and ethical and sustainable business company, which is doing very good things for the environment whilst other big companies arent

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much so, the work was entertaining and worthwhile The team were very helpful and kind to me, and they treated me like a friend The company itself made it very enjoyable, as I got to see every single process It really met my expectations well, as i was expecting a well-run, efficient company, and thats what i was met with

  • 4. How valued do you feel by McDonald's?
  • Very valued as i was treated like an equal by the managers and the workers, even though they were extremely high up in the McDonalds chain of command, one tier below CEOs etc I was contacted after to see how i was doing, and the guy who i shadowed gave me good references after the date i left I was invovlved heavily, contacting MPs, highlighting news that is related to the every day workings of Mcdonalds etc I was valued highly over the weeks

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I was introduced round to everyone on the floor that i was working on, and helped find my way around each work station that i was put on to on the different days i was trained well considering it was not a permanent post, They taught me things that i still use to this day I felt very supported thoughout I was involved in structured meetings involving extremely high level people, and was told exactly what the meetings were about It wasnt fully organised, but it was still very enjoyable

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My main advisor gave me lots of support throughout the time i was there He was always on hand to give me help, and when he was not available, he would always ensure that there was someone that i could talk to if i was stuck He gave me good guidance on everything involved He was more than eager to help me, and even befriend me, as he invited me to play football after just one working day

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The manager was very helpful in his support despite having much more important things to do The HR team were not involved with me, however I did know one person in that department personally and she was helpful My mentor was extremely supporting, helping me out on pretty much every aspect of work I was guided through any problems that I had, eloquently and efficiently

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I was not paid during this tie as it was work experience, I did not have a need for living costs as i was staying with my sister for the two weeks The travel costs were covered by the company through my sister The daily costs were half-covered, as all food at the on-site mcdonalds restaurant that all of the employees used, was half price They paid for me to join a football tournament whilst i was there, that was organised by mcdonalds The location was right in the centre of london which was amazing as i am from south wales

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I was invited to a company event that hosted MPs that I invited, however i was unable to attend There werent many company activities covered by the company itself, but all of the employees organised stuff out of hours We had local community events on both weeks, which i attended There are sports clubs nearby, of all different sports, and also mini football leagues all around We went to the cinema and theatre whilst not working, as i wanted to enjoy the time in london

  • 9. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The whole process is great for my cv, as not many people can say that they have had work experience with the heads of a company, let alone one of the biggest comapnies in the world. This will give me a great competitive advantage in the job process, as i can say that i know exactly how mega companies are ran, and give smaller companies notes on efficiency

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Network beforehand to ensure someone can give you a foot in the door. I applied informally though my sister, and she had friends high up, who i soon became friends with. I would have liekd to have known how i couldve stayed for longer, as the experience was so positive, i feel that i should have asked to stay for another couple of weeks. luckily i was told about the dress code beforehand as my sister worked there, however i wouldnt have looked so smart if i had dressed as i normally would dress for smaller wprk experience oppurtunity
