I had my work experience in Alzheimer's society in Coventry, England. I will be listening and talking to clients with dementia in a sensitive and supportive manner. I will report more complex issues to society staff as appropriately. I also need to provide information’s regarding Alzheimer’s diseases including fact sheets for public awareness. I need to keep accurate and appropriate records of the clients and engaging with social activities that benefits the group. Assisting with serving food and refreshments to the group. I need to adhere Alzheimer’s Society health and safety standards at all times and be committed to policies and procedures such as equal opportunities, data protection and code of conduct. I need to develop a good understanding of society activities which will help to handle any enquiries. I need to have an interest in people with dementia and ability to be patient and caring towards the patients. I need to demonstrate good listening and communication skills. Ability to complete records and a commitment to attend workshops and relevant learning. I need to show good reliability, punctuality and willingness to learn more about dementia and how it affects.
Yes, I have. 1. key communication skills with the Alzheimer's patients by using verbal and non-verbal languages 2. numeracy and organisation skills: to keep track of activity points and organising group activities ahead of the day by learning new activities 3. rules for the sports: I have learned new rules that are involved in the sports which I have to teach the members
I had a wonderful experience working in Alzheimers's society. every day was different and we will receive different clients with different background stories. This makes it more interesting for me to work and engage with them.
I was highly valued and appreciated by both staffs and the clients. if I had any concerns, I'm comfortable talking to the clients and they will resolve any matter as quickly as possible.
This programme was organised by my university through placement unit. it was easy to apply and they forwarded my details to the society. once they receive my details, they organised a formal interview with them and they discussed my main responsibilities and duties that need to be fulfilled. they also showed me around the base and also discussed about fire safety.
I have not received nay training from my provider; my university. all the training was provided by the Alzheimers society itself. the universities main concern was to complete health and safety form from my employer.
I have received sufficient training and support from the staffs in order to carry out my duties. they supported throughout the day and they will evaluate my performances once very week. they will mention any form of improvement or concerns.
N/A the work experience was voluntary and it did not involve any wages. the organistation is within 10 minutes walk from my house, therefore it was convienent for me to travel to the place of work.
After completing my placement, I have acquired various skills that can be transferred in many field sectors such as improved language skills that are suitable for communication and written tasks. By having a practical experience will improve my job opportunities. I can expand my experience in teamwork and develop interpersonal skills. This placement has given me a personal insight into what job offers and what has been developed in this sector. I also achieved additional knowledge and skills which were gained from my placement which can directly apply to my final year project. I can also build up a network of contacts which will help me and enter into my chosen career.
Yes
it is an amazing work placement that involved Alzheimer's clients. This placement gives an insight into how the disease progress and how it impacts their daily tasks and their family members.
it might take some time to know your clients, therefore do not rush them to make a decision or they may exhibit aggressive behaviour towards you.
