My role was to learn about track maintenance and the skill of lock-in fitting on the railway network
I have learnt how to develop my skills with working in a team and working in high pressures environments. Furthermore I have gained skills in working towards fine detail and managing my time effectively
So far I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship with network rail. I've made some good friends and learnt some valuable skills that I will carry with me through the rest of my working life. I am also really impressed with the teaching quality that I've had
I feel valued at network rail. It's nice to know that your hard work and efforts are going towards my future which I know is safe with network rail. Also I enjoy the staff benefits such as discounted rail fayres etc.
The structure of the programme suits me well. We initially had 5 months of training in Coventry where we lived away from home. Here we learnt the basics and teachnical side of the role, before going out on the job. It's good to put theory to practice
We have personal mentors which I find is a big help! Everyone is so friendly and supportive, you know that you've got the support network for all aspects of the role
We get support from Network rail throughout the whole of the apprenticeship, however I find it more useful from the lecturers and trainers
Initially when I first started my apprenticeship at Network Rail I thought the salary was quite poor, however I realise now that we are being taught and trained to go into a specific job for the future. I like the idea of learning and being paid!
Yes. People who are on your course like to socialise outside of work.
Yes
It is an excellent starting point to gain a valuable skill/job. Network Rail have given me the confidence and skills to be able to work as a Track Engineer in the future and I look forward to my employment with them!
Work hard, take every opportunity you are given, learn from your mistakes and enjoy it!!
