  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I spent 9 months at Tyne Metropolitan College in Newcastle studying a C&G in Wind Turbine Maintenance and Operations and am working towards my NVQ level 3. I spent a further month completing appropriate training courses all GWO standard including HUET and Off Shore Survival. I've spent the rest of my time on various sites in the north of Scotland where I have undergone mostly maintenance tasks such as year one servicing and year ten servicing though I have been highly involved in some heavy lift jobs and large scale component changes. I have completed a generator/main bearing change in one day on a Siemens 3MW Direct Drive Turbine. I have also been part of a team to almost completely replace a 1.3MW turbine after a thermal incident. The list goes on, various main bearing changes, gearbox changes and yaw gear/motor replacements. Another part of my job is to be able to fault find, as of yet I have not been able to get really involved with fault finding but I look forward to it.
