Manufacturing Engineering Intern - working within the engineering department and down on the shop floor to ensure production of structural components
I learnt about the workings of an engineering company but did not use any of my degree knowledge to complete the placement.
I did, but found the work very repetitive and not challenging enough to keep me interested.
I felt valued by some colleagues in a social sense, however work-wise I was not important.
Very poorly structured. Was okay at first but then work ran out.
They were supportive to an extent, however manager struggled to give me work. Pastorally they were excellent.
I was unwell for a period of time and they were very supportive with this. It would have been good if they could've showed this level of commitment to supporting my work.
I was paid okay.
Not hugely no.
No
Maybe I would recommend GE to someone if they were to work at another site, but I would strongly advise they avoid where I was.
Make sure it is a challenging enough role for you before you apply.
