My role is primarily performing security callbacks to confirm updates to client's static data to prevent fraudulent amendments. It also encompasses cheque referral callbacks, to make sure cheques aren't fraudulent and the opening of money market deposit accounts.
I've come from a telephony background and I've found that I am still developing those skills with a different kind of client. Its also allowing me to grow a knowledge of banking which I previously didn't have.
Having been out of education for a couple of years I have found the transition back difficult however I believe the program is well structured which has eased the transition
I feel RBS value their staff, and there is higher expectation on me as an apprentice but I am very well supported in achieving what I want to.
The program is well structured with regular deadline, none too close together however I believe there is an impact with everything being self taught
I have monthly catch up calls with my assessor as well as webinars before exams, I don't have much contact apart from that but I know I could ask for more support if I needed
There are several previous apprentices who are a great source of support for the current group of apprentices. My line manager also ensures that I get all the support I need with my apprenticeship
I'm on the same salary as any normal officer which is a real benefit. I find the money is adequate for my needs, and I am able to meet all my financial commitments
RBS actively encourages people to get involved with charities and we have an allotment of community engagement days every year. There are also several employee led networks who organise events outside of work
Yes
I feel like I am treated well and valued as an employee. I feel there are so many areas to develop in the bank that it is a really good place to work
For an apprentice to apply it is a long process, the best advice is make sure you get involved in activities to give you as much as possible to talk about during interviews. I would like to have been the timeframe which for some applicants was 10 months
