  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role was store assistant. This role including stocking shelves, answering customer queries and keeping the store clean. I was given this role by the store manager who informed me of my daily duties. I stocked various items such as groceries and bakery products. I also worked on the till at busy times.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills such as confidence. I am more confidence when interacting with other people. This skill is vital in the retail sector and I feel more confident in my availing. I also learnt good time management, this helped me to achieve my goals more efficiently and quickly. I enjoyed developing these skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I didn't overly enjoy the experience as I felt demotivated throughout the time period. My role did not satisfy me greatly. I felt like my skills were easily replaceable. Although, I did enjoy completing the task set to me. For example, I was given a task and had a certain time period to complete this.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I felt somewhat valued as my role contributed to the success of the company and others. I felt valued by the manager who supported me in the job difficulties and gave me guidance. I felt appreciated by the staff who gave I didn't overly enjoy the experience as I felt demotivated throughout the time period. My role did not satisfy me greatly. I felt like my skills were easily replaceable.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was structured in well organised manner. My talks were outlined to me from the store manager who gave me guidance through out the process. I was set clear targets and given time periods to achieve these targets. I was also given a plan on the structure of the experience.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received some support from the training provider. They provided me with details on the placement. The requirement of the placement were cleary outlined to me. I was also given a document outlined what my possible roles could be and the structure of the placement. This made me conficdence I had the right information to make the deicision.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received some support from my employer who guided me through the placement. He ensured I was aware of how the placement will take place and what my roles will be. He encouraged and motivated me throughout , and ensured I was healthy and and able to carry out the work. I felt appreciated by the staff who made sure I was happy with the job.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • It met my costs very well. I was given sufficient details on where the placement would take place. This meant I could make travel arrangements in advance , and by doing this I was able to find the cheapest way of travelling. I was provided with facilities to purchase food and drink at a reduced. price.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I feel there is a lack of opportunities outside of work. The community only offers basic activities at a high cost. I feel more could be added to improve the community, and give the local people more opportunities. For example, more cinemas could be added. Due to work commitments I am unable to attend the current activities.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend the company to others as it gives you a platform to learn basic skill. These skills can help you in other areas of business and retail. They also offer support to staff and incentives. Although, the tasks can be repetitive, the company has a good working atmosphere.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • I would give tips such as contacting the manager before hand to get to know them. This ensures a good working relationship is built, and it means you find out about information on any problems you may have. I would also say that be prepared for the role beforehand and have a good attitude the job.
