I am a first year finance apprentice, however as part of my apprenticeship I spend time in various different departments in order to understand how the business operates. It also allows me to learn new skills that will be applicable in my future role as a financial controller. I have been involved in different projects during my apprenticeship thus far which means the daily tasks will vary. The tasks usually involve working with Excel spreadsheets to input and analyse data, and also working within a team.
As part of the apprenticeship I am completing a degree in business management and communications as well as a level 3 diploma in business administration. These qualifications have taught me new skills that I can apply at work. The apprenticeship has also developed my ICT skills, especially Excel.
I enjoy the programme at BMW as I get to work in different departments which means I get to experience different roles and work with a variety of people whilst learning more knowledge and skills.
I feel valued by BMW Group because I get acknowledged for the work I do by my managers. Although I am an apprentice, I am involved in the projects to a quite detailed level and I am given valuable tasks.
There was an original structure put in place however there was flexibility which meant I have been in different placements than were originally anticipated. All placements have been useful and structured though.
I go to college one day a week to complete the degree where I recieve reasonble support from my tutors. If I want to reach them on another day, it has to be by email which can take some time to get a response.
There is a training building and managers specifically to support apprentices so when I need assistance, I have someone to turn to. I think the managers are supportive and willing to help me.
I live at home so I think the salary is good and covers my cost of living with money to spare for social costs. If people were renting their own property, then the salary may not cover their needs.
There are company events to get involved with, including charity sport events and bike rides, and apprenticeship events such as visiting schools and being part of the Ambassador scheme.
Yes
Because I have learnt a lot during my time with BMW so far and have developed as a person. I have enjoyed my placements and also got involved in the additional events. I am aslo happy to be gettng a degree out of the apprenticeship.
My advice would be to research the company and job role before the interview as the interviewers like to know that you are passionate about BMW and know basic information about them.
