In my current year i spend one day a week doing the level 3 BTEC and the rest of the week im working on plant with the maintenance team learning and improving my skills.
I have learned many skills since starting the apprenticeship, these come from tutors in the first year and in my current year, learning from experienced members of the maintenance team.
I engjoy the type of work i do as well as the environment in which i do it. There are many areas within maintenance to learn and improve which i find interesting and rewarding.
I feel quite valued here as we're told that we're the future maintenance of the plant, there are a lot of apprentices so it can sometimes feel slightly competative.
The BTEC in the first year could've been better as the work wasnt spread very evenly through the year. However the rest of it such as placements on plant are organised well.
We all have access to the same amount of support, it is up to us to ask for it, as we are all mature students. Support can be given for anything from BTEC work to advice for non proffesional issues.
Our employers are very supportive as we have alot of apprentices, taking care of them is important. My employer is always sure to let me know that i can come to them with any issues whether it be professional or non-professional.
The salary is very good, especially comparing it to other apprenticeships. My living costs are fairly low as i still live at home and the salary is more than enough.
There are many things to do outside of work such as, discounts with local leisure centres and careers events where apprentices go to schools and help promote thw apprenticeship.
Yes
The training given is to a high standard and support is given generously. The salary as well as company benefits you receive are incredible for an apprentice.
Prepare some examples of your own work to bring to the interview, this can help show you abilties and shows you know how to log work which is neccesary in the second year of the apprenticeship. I would also reccomend if possible speaking to someone who is a current apprentice or was an apprentice and seeing if the type of work you do would suit you, hours, travel, interests etc.
