My role is currently a 4th year Maintenance Technician apprentice within the body shop. Day to day I will assist my team in ensuring the automated production line runs smoothly whilst ensuring the quality of the cars built is good.
I have learnt a lot of the equipment on my area and how to use it in situations that require fault finding, such as the robots we use. I have used various software programs as well.
The work itself is interesting, there just isnt much of it until the line stops running, so it can be a bit boring sometimes. My team are very easy to work with and help me out a lot.
Fairly valued as they have invested a lot into me so obviously they want be at the company, as an apprentice I try and help out as much as I can but more responsibility will come in the future.
The program was well structured, we had placements in various parts of the business to get further experience and skills. Sometimes there were issues with organisation of the placements but nothing major.
As a 4th year I no longer have much interaction from my training manager unless I need something, but if I did then they are always happy to support.
My placement manager gives me some support but not a lot because I'm not oficially part of the team yet, but minor things are always dealt with. It can be frustrating waiting to be put onto training courses when they are vital to my job.
The salary is very good as an apprentice and there are no issues for me persoanlly with living costs. I do live quite far away but i manage as I still live with my parents.
There are only a few company-wide events such as family days, I havent heard of any company activities very often. For me I dont do a lot outside of work apart from a bit of golf and seeing family and friends.
Yes
There are loads of different job roles that all pay well, there are a lot of benefits that the company offers us as well. I persnally have had an enjoyable time so far but I see a lot of room to grow within the company.
Make sure you research the job role well and understand exactly what you will be doing, as well as any other placements based around it like my appreniceship.
