When in the First year of the apprenticeship, on a Monday we carry out BTEC work with tutors including an insight into Programmable Logic controllers, Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Principles, Drawing and Health and Safety. Throughout the rest of the week we are in the workshop completing work for 3 different rotations (Mechanical, Handfitting and Machining, and Electrical).
Whilst in the Workshop we are constantly either improving existing skills or learning new skils throughout each rotation. The BMW group apprenticeship also provides key personal skills that are developed over the year within the group
The apprenticehsip programme is very enjoyable, you get to make many new friendships and a good bond with all the staff and tutors on the course whilst completing all necessary work.
I feel like a valued member of the team at BMW and find that the staff appreciate and recognise the work you put in during the year. The staff get many apprentices involved within tasks in the year which apprentices are recognised for massively.
The programme is very well structured, we know what to do during each day and training is carried out and planned well. The programme allows time for studying and the tutors provide all necessary supoort needed.
Support is provided when needed, such as after work sessions for maths, and the tutors are very open to be spoken to about problems with tasks or with any other matters.
I recieve all necesaary support i need from tutors and staff. Including support when in the workshop and mainly support with BTEC work such as Mathematics.
The apprenticeship pays very well in comparison to many other apprenticeship schemes in the country and provides plenty of money to cover living costs and travel costs within the month.
Theres a wide range of opportunities that arise from the apprenticeship such as company events where apprentices may talk to other students about the scheme and many other voluntary activities.
Yes
The BMW group provides a fantastic apprenticeship scheme which is very enjoyable whilst providing the necessary traits for all the apprentices to become top engineers.
The application process takes alot of mental knowledge. Firstly you apply for the apprenticeship then you will be sent an email with various tests therefore i would reccomend revising basic maths knowledge and english. i would also reccomend bringing a portfolio to the interview of previous engineering projects such as school projects or home projects such as working on a car or basic DIY tasks carried out.
