The job title for my role is Maintenance Technician. One day a week i spend doing Btec work and then the other 4 days of the week i spend doing practical work in a workshop. within the workshop i complete a mechanical section, electrical section and a handfitting and machining section. Responsibilites i have within the workshop are to make sure that at the end of every shift the workshop is clean and tidy and as a team leader the responsibility is to make sure everyone is helping out and allocating jobs to peopple.
Since starting the apprenticeship i have learnt and developed many skills in the workshop. These include, wiring up and testing circuits, constructing pneumatic circuits and creating plc programs and developing my hand fitting skills.
i find the apprenticeship programme extremely enjoyable and find everyday day interesting but also a challenge. The main reason i enjoying the programme is because i get to learn new things and develop my skills.
I feel that BMW value me as an apprentice as they know that apprentices are the future of BMW. I feel valued from the feedbadck that i recive from my manager in reviews and from tutors after completing tasks.
The programme is well structured as from the day i started got given an introduction into what i will be completing throughout the year and how it will be layed out. There is always support when i need it from tutors and manager. Once a week there is a team meeting with my manager and there is always questions asked to make sure everyone is getting on with everything okay.
I feel that the support i recive is just right as whenever i feel that i need to ask a question to guide me with any work, there is always someone there who can help me. All tutors can offer and give support at anytime even if they are npot training you at that time.
On a weekly basis all first year apprentices have a team meeting with the employer which they offer support and answer any questions we may have. They always have a positive attitude towards answering questions or sorting out and problems that i have.
The salary i recive pays for all of my outgoings i have including travel costs and living costs and then i have some left over for social costs.
There is an oppurtunity to go to wales to complete a mountain challege course over a weekend with other apprentices. There is also a fitness class which all bmw assosiates can attend.
Yes
I would recommend and i have recommended BMW group to a friend as the quality of training that i recive is exceptional, while also reciving a well paid salary, good pension scheme and an enjoyable place to work.
That when you come to the assessment day that you come as prepared as possible as this shows that you are interested in the job and you have out effort into the day. Also do not rush the application form as this is the first stage of the application process so you are up against all of the candidates that have applied.
