Maintance role, first year is learning skills daily within a workshop enviroment. Placements begin after a year arcross the plant, the location will change after a number of weeks so a number of enviroments will be worked in. Placements will involve shadowing maintance teams and learning how to perform numerous maintance operations. There are various qualifications worked towards during the apprentiship which include a BTEC and a NVQ.
Developed various skills within areas of mechanical, hand fitting abd electrical. These skills can be used within work and outside of work as they are transferable into different situations. A lot of theory has been learnt about different subjects which relate to this industry such as electronic principals and engineering drawing
I enjoy the working aspect of the role as it involves learning and is very hands on. The theory side is interesting as it goes into detail within the explanation of complex machinery such as D.C. shunt motors. The company has a number of benifits such as the company car scheme which allows young people to drive a new car at an affordable price, this is a benifit enjoyed by a large percentage of apprentices.
The management show appreciation where it is due, there are reviews every few months where progress is discussed and help can be provided where required. There are various careers events which apprentices have the oppurtunity to attend, these allow the apprentices to share their experience with others who share similar interests.
The program is well structured, there are rotations in place within the workshop. The days of the week are deisgnated so it is known what is expected before the day starts. The placement plan is available to be seen on the intranet so the apprentice can find where they are to be placed in the fututre. There are team leaders responsible for keeping the workshop organised, they are changed every two weeks so that everyone gets a chance.
There is a lot of support provided by the training provider, if there is any problems outside of work, they can be discussed with the college leader and help can be put into place. There are extra maths sessions in place that can be attended in order to catch up with work. There are sets of apprentices that attend lessons, they have been suited to the ability of each indivudual in order for everyone to achieve their best.
Managers are very helpful when it comes to support, they will try their best to help with any problems. There is a union that will represent an individual when they come into any trouble with management. The periodic reviews are very useful and support is offered within them. Payrises are given if an individual is on track and if they aren't, help will be provided to ensure they get back on track.
The salary is sufficient for an apprentice, the payrise system will ensure that as the general costs for an individual goes up due to getting older ect. The location is pretty central so it is possible for people from surroundign areas to get to and from work without excessive costs. I am satisfied with the salary provcided from the employer, however if i was older, difficulties may have been faced.
There are a number of oppurtunities in place such as visiting schools, occasionally sport activities and even a fitness class. Other oppurtunities include discounts at various places, career events, world challenge, mountain challenge and much more. These oppurtunities are supported by the company and it may ven be possible for a car to be provided in order for transportation.

The apprentiship system in place seems well orgnaidsed, it helps to tach young individuals about a working enviroment and the behavoir that is suitable at work. There are numerous benifits and oppurtunities when working for the company. Qualifications can be obtained and usefull skills learnt which can be used anywhere. A lot can be learnt in this way opposed to a degree as its a more hands on role yet there is still a lot of theory based work involved.
Ensure that the entry requirements are met first of all. Apply online and anser the questions honestly and on your own. During the interviews be as confident as possible and bring some previous work along which you can talk about in detail in order to show understanding. Ask plenty of questions to find out what you want to know. Try your best in the assessment days and do not panick, confidence in the group activities is important.
