I work in the Registration and Amendments team. I am currently working in the dispatch area which deals with identification cards and PINs for the Barclays.Net application. Barclays.Net is the online banking application for business customers and is managed by the Corporate area of the bank. An example task would be where details of PINs that have been sent to customers but unable to be delivered are returned to the site and logged in a tracking spreadsheet.
The initial training was based upon preparing the apprentices for work in a large financial organization. Having worked in two large financial institutions over the last 28 years, I am familiar with a lot of the skills used in a office based team. The new things to learn come from the specific tasks the team deals with on a daily bases.
I enjoy completing tasks that have been given to me to action.
Overall I feel valued at Barclays, but perhaps a little less valued by my current team as they are aware that my time with them is temporary. I feel they question the value of investing their time in training me when they know I will be leaving their team to go to another team and not returning to theirs.
After the initial training, the work is more online based. It involves gathering information from online and hardcopy sources. This is a change from the initial classroom based activity, but I have adapted to this change.
My training coach is available for any queries I have with the work assigned to me. Our monthly meetings provide guidance and support helping me to resolve any issues that arise.
Support is available from my training manager and my local line manager.
My current salary from Barclays does not cover my costs on a monthly basis. To make up the shortfall I work for Domino's pizza as a delivery driver five nights per week (around 27 hours). The combined hours worked - 62 hours provides my current income.
Possibly, but currently I do not have time to attend them.

Barclays is a large organization employing many people in this country and abroad. It offers a wide range of roles in varied areas meaning there are many different jobs to suit different people.
The onboarding process does take what seems like a long time. However, looking at this from the banks point of view, they need to ensure appropriate pre-employment checks have been made before employing staff. This requires patience from applicants. For interview, be prepared. Not only for the role you have applied for, but look at the bigger Barclays picture. Find out about the company, what we do, and the values which we work to. You need to demonstrate you know the Barclays values and how you would apply them in your job. Conform a little to the Barclays way and the expectations of a large organization, but don't forget your talents, experience and what you can bring to the role. Be yourself.
