I am an advanced apprentice my name is Alfie street and I live in Portsmouth and work in Portsmouth naval base. My daily tasks consist of a lot of paper based coursework for the first year. we are doing an NVQ level 3 with a PEO level 2 I really enjoy my apprenticeship and recommend anyone interested in looking into it.
Yes I have learnt a vast array of new skill, from hand skills in the workshop such as filling, sawing, drilling, abrasive wheel and fire and safety techniques and knowledge. Also we have learnt a lot of academic skills. It has helped me have abetter understanding of mathematics and other variants such as mechanical principles and so on.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship. I never feel like I'm dragging myself out of bed. I'm really looking forward to going out into the dockyard and refining my trade in the years to come. All of my colleagues are friendly and I get on with them. The company on a whole seems like a really good one to work for, they have a lot of schemes in place which are looking out for us like our pension scheme and the shares system.
I feel very valued as a first year apprentice at BAE, I get a lot of praise for my work and my personality. All of my instructors are friendly and I get along with them really well. We have a good time here but also et all of our work complete. I always feel involved with any activities that are going on. I was personally asked by Wendy fry to be apart of the apprentice innovation challenge which is a brilliant opportunity to do some extra work to help me at the beginning of my career.
The course is fairly well structured we are always told what we are going to be learning at what times. There is sometimes some alterations to our schedule but it never really conflicts with our programme too much. we are always trained to a very high standard when we are learning something new. I always feel confident using a new piece of equipment or machinery.
We receive all of the necessary support we need, if we are ever needing help or assistance its eve far away, we are told early on who our safeguarding mentors are so if we ever have a problem we can away go and speak to them and we can work together to resolve the issues if there was one.

I know I have copy what I answered for question 6a but this is only because I feel exactly the same way. it doesn't feel like there's a massive gap between our training provider and our employer it all just seems to merge together for me which I think is a good way to do it.
The salary we are on is a fair amount for someone who would be coming into this apprenticeship straight from school or from a younger age. but I started this apprenticeship when I was nearly 21 and I already had outgoings in place such as rent so for me it is a bit harder some months. I think our salary is just under minimum wage for my age category. so it would be nice if it was a little bit higher.
I am not sure what sort of opportunities are available outside of work. I haven't really heard of any company events that happen. When we where at the beginning of or apprenticeship our employers took us out of work for a week to go to wales for a team building experience at the outward bound centre it was really good experience that eased us all into our apprenticeship.
Yes
Over all I think its a great apprenticeship to be on with great facilities and a lot of good equipment and training available. I think there are countless opportunities available for anyone willing to put in the effort and a vast amount of job rolls to be filled so there will be something for everyone.
I would advise anyone who is looking to become a BAE apprentice to spend some time to research the company before the interview, be prepared before any aptitude tests because they can be quite challenging and have a keen interest in the nautical or aero engineering world and be keen to learn new skills.
