advanced apprentice in electrical at BAE systems. day to day we don't get up to much as there is long waits in-between task due to poor organisational skills form BAE. our daily interaction internally are very poor we do not have any/ much with people out side of the company. external communication are slightly better we talk to some of the navel and sort ship visits and charity football matches while they help us out in the workshop.
we have achieved are IOSH and passport to production qualification at the moment witch are just health and safety, internal cores we have don't one witch was the qualification written above. external course we haven't completed any. haven developed presentation al talking to an audience skills. we have learnt basic electronics and electrical fitting and bench fitting all provided from Babcock and mark Prendergast.
the program is relatively enjoyable the small team of electrical is very enjoyable to work with. we done a outwards bounds course to late so there is some tension between the fabrication and mecs classes with makes in less enjoyable. we meet my expectation in terms of enjoyment
at the moment I do not feel valued to the company as we haven't worked with bae systems very much mainly worked with babcock.
the organisation skills of bae systems is very poor to get anything done everyone has to jump through hopes or talk to other heads of the business or navel. are program has been changed multiple times by bae systems and Babcock multiple times.
we receive a lot of support from babcock engineer in our training me being dyslexic they have written personal program for me in terms of my learning and helping me with all my work to make it manageable.
form our trade instructors we receive a lot of support (mark predigest, Kevin Howe, toney Tomasso)
I feel that the wage package is fare for my expenses but it is a little tight at the end of each month I image that for people living further afield or form the isle of white it could be quite challenging I feel travel expenses for people living out side of Portsmouth should be provided.
there are events that are organised but the majority of these events seem to go to the fabrication class when its the electrical class that has organised the last few outings.
Yes
I would recommend this to others as there are some really good incentives like the shares schema and pension.
be aware there is some very poor organisational skills in this apprenticeship. but you'll enjoy it
