My job roles changes on a day to day basis. As working in a commercial environment no two days are the same. The construction industry is ever changing with new problems arising every day. One day I could be making application for payments the next I could be assessing Compensation Events.
I have learnt many new specialist skills targeted at my specific job role. But I have also further developed my communication skills as well weather that being over e-mail or face-to-face. It has allowed me to gain independence from the school environment and become more proactive.
This programme allows me to have a professional life as well as a social one as well. It gives me a good work to life balance. This job is best catered to my needs, and makes me excited to come to work every day. It also allows me to become friends with other apprentices in the scheme as well.
I feel valued and they care for my personal and professional well being and development. They always have reviews with me checking my progress. Whenever I say or suggest something they always take in on board and try and make me feel recognised and make me feel like an asset to the company.
The premise of the programme is structured. It is difficult to have a set curriculum in which what you have to learn as projects and placements change all the time. However I feel that maybe an outline of essential QS skills that you need to develop over the 2 years would be beneficial.
My training provider has detailed and set out a number of ways in which I can be supported if/when needed. I can talk to people in person, or also contract them via email. Its whatever suits my needs best. They also have qualified professional to help with my RICS application as well.
I receive plenty of support. There is a plethora of people to talk to about any and all forms of support required. I have different placement managers as well as whole scheme managers to talk to as well. I can also talk to fellow college if need be as well. There is always someone to talk to for support.
I am on a very competitive apprenticeship wage which I feel fairly represents the workload I undertake. They also provide free/discounted travel which I feel is part of the wage. At times I feel the wage could be higher due to the fact I work in London and the work can be demanding but that compensates to the fact that they are paying for my qualifications.
There are always opportunities to go on outside training courses as well as doing nightshifts across the company. It is not just confined to my normal working hours. It also allows me to network with other people and companies. The skills and qualifications I gain are transfer to many different workplaces in the future as well.
Yes
It is a company that treats all of its employees fairly and gives them many opportunities. It allows me to become fully qualified whilst learning on the job as well. It is a nice environment to work in and there is always someone to talk to if you have a problem.
Do research on what apprenticeship scheme is best suited to you and what you look for most out of an apprenticeship, as you can only apply for one. Also research on what the scheme is about.
