My role in audit involves reviewing documents to help verify the financial statements prepared by the business. Predominantly I work doing testing and controls which makes up a section of the audit. My role in Tech Solutions involved helping design and transition services into the Service Desk. I also worked on the Service desk during my time in Tech Solutions.
Re-taking my AAT Level 3 qualification alongside working in an accounting environment during my role in audit has given me a lot of additional experience and knowledge I did not have. I have also development my soft skills of communication and networking which I feel I lacked confidence with before I started. I attended a course for Cloud computing as part of my time in Tech and this developed my knowledge in a technical background.
I really enjoy the program. The teams I have worked with have all been great and provided a lot of support for my career. The program and KPMG themselves also provide many networking events which raise moral amongst the cohort. The KPMG360 team also continue to try improve and develop the program for us.
I feel like our opinions on the program and its development are very valued and respected, with changes implement where possible. I do however feel our personal career aspirations are not valued to quite the same level as we are set to follow the program structure with little room for deviation.
The program as a whole is very well-structured and planned with a clear view of what we can achieve across what period. I feel some aspects of the program are very well organised such as our study breaks and exams. Forums and cascade meetings are also very well organised and we are continually kept up to date. I do however feel our first rotation was not organised quite as well. We were informed of the reasons behind this and it is understandable as to why this happened, however this was not ideal for many people.
BPP are a great training provider and we are informed of various means of support. Having completed the qualification before I have not needed to contact BPP for any additional support however I would know who to contact if I did. I also feel the materials we are provided are a great help.
Again I have had no issues to date in my studying which has required me to ask for support, however I am aware of various people I could contact if I did. I am also assured these support levels are in place having seen friends and colleagues use them. Regular emails keep me up to date with these support contacts.
The salary offered by KPMG is great for a school leaver at 18/19 years old. Being slightly older and already having financial commitments means I do struggle slightly with the salary, however this was something I was aware of when applying for the role. Overall the package and extras I am able to take are great. Having being on the program less than one year we have not yet received an annual bonus, if applicable. It would be great to know if these are based upon performance and not just general across the board.
We are encouraged to take part in volunteering opportunities to help the wider community. I have been lucky to take part in one with another one planned later in the year, these are very rewarding are I enjoy that we are able to do this. We are also encouraged to attend social and networking events across the firm to meet others and build a more interactive workplace.

KPMG is a great place to work with an amazing community and values which are well respected throughout the company. The program offers a great opportunity for a first chance at a career in Finance giving a wealth of experience across a variety of department and roles. The opportunities here are endless.
For people wanting to apply to KPMG I would recommend reviewing the KPMG values and be confident in the type of place you are wanting to work. Be prepared to work hard and be pushed outside of your comfort zone, but it is very rewarding seeing yourself develop. There are many opportunities to get involved with social activities and this is not just a work place, it is a small community.
