In my role as a finance apprentice. I have completed 4 month rotations in 3 different teams to get a understanding of the business. My first placement was in the cash team where my main responsibility was to allocate cash and make sure accounts stayed up to date. I moved to a different area of the business after 4 months, where I was involved in seeing different methods of non financial reporting. I am now in the revenue team where my main responsibility is to do daily reconciliations and make sure revenue has been correctly accounted for.
I have learnt soft wares such as SAP and oracle as well as a coding software called R science. I have also been able to enhance my excel skills.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I find it is challenging as well as rewarding.
I feel very valued within TFL and have already been awarded a make a difference award. Our scheme sponsor is really supportive and does his best to keep us in the loop and supports us on anything we are finding difficult.
The programme is very apprentice friendly as although the programme is structured there is a lot of room for flexibility to fit in studies, holidays and other commitments. Our placement managers give us good workloads which are manageable and challenging at the same time.
Our training provider has been really supportive by providing us material for our exam aswell as well as feedback on all coursework in a timely manner. There is also regular phone call catch ups to make sure everything is going according to plan.
We receive great support from our employer and have monthly 1:1s with our scheme sponsor as well as 1:1s every 3 months with a support manager to monitor our progress.
salary is really good for an apprentice. The free travel also helps a lot. Also opportunities to earn more money by helping out on stations during special events,
They are opportunities in particular with sport and music. Often put on the intranet noticeboard for the entire organisation to see.
Yes
Because TFL is a great organisation that supports the development of young people and delivers a service that keeps London moving.
Advice I would give is to apply early and to attend career fairs and speak to apprentices from TFL as well as other organisations. Would also advise candidates to do a lot of research before coming to the interview and learning the STAR technique.
