Im a apprentice technition, usually i complete anything from simple mark ups or drawings to creating 3D models of structures
yes my knowledge of civil engineering as a whole has improved as has my knowledge of bridges.
extremly, the team around me are fantiastic and constantly pushing me to do better.
i feel very valued as i have said i get so much support from everybody from senior technitions to junior engineers. however i would like to recieve the same treatment as a graduate when they first enter the company.
college and the experience you gain on the job is very good from the way they dont throw you into the deep end they allow you to develop your skills properly first. however i would like there to be more information on how to complete the NVQ i have to finish.
my mentor at work is outstanding. he constantly takes time out of his day to help me with my work. i have found that this is one of the best things about ARUP staff.
everybody from HR to senior managment are always keeping track of me from just simply asking if im ok in the coffee room to addending meetings to ensure i am improving properly.
the pay as an apprentice is the best i have seen. the office is very easy to get to so travel is not an issue.
there have been numerous events that Arup have organised free of charge. from christmas partys to different seminars or lectures on a variety of subjects everyday.
Yes
the way i feel valued by the company and also the skills and knowledge i have gained so far is incredible. they are constantly pushing you to improve yourself whether its going for higher education or going for a better proffesional qualification.
research the company on the type of projects they are inviolved in. if you do get the job listen to your mentors and try to take as much in from the people around you. addend college as much as you possibly can as the work can easily get on top of you.
