My day to day job role is production scheduler. It is my responsibility to ensure that all our customers have the necessary stock level in order to meet demand, as well as ensuring that we have sufficient materials for production. Daily interactions mainly take place with the operations team as well as the materials planners to ensure that the best possible plan is achievable and executable. I also have regular meetings/phone conferences with the requirements planners who are in constant communication with various customers about their demands and any marketing promotions.
I think my personal skills have definitely improved since joining Unilever. My confidence has increased greatly which has enabled my communication skills to improve both inside and outside of work. I am currently completing a Level 3 NVQ in Supply Chain Management as well as sitting APICS examinations, which have both allowed me to significantly develop my understanding and knowledge of the supply chain and logistics as a whole.
I enjoy working as part of a functional team while also having to work as part of a wider team within the factory. I enjoy the fact that the day to day work is not boring as circumstances are always evolving and changing which means I have to be prepared to react and resolve potential issues if they are to arise.
I do feel valued by Unilever as they have provided me with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and to progress my career with the company. They are investing in my future by providing me with the platform to further my education through the Level 3 NVQ in Supply Chain Management with West Cheshire College as well as the APICS qualification, which will in turn allow me to advance my career further the company.
My programme is organised and structured as I know exactly what I have to do within the day to day tasks and work, as well as the longer term aspects of the job. The same can also be said for my apprenticeship and the progress of my overall qualification, I know exactly what I have to achieve and when it needs to be achieved by in terms of both qualifications.
I am undergoing my qualification while in the workplace rather than on day release and going to the college. I have meetings with my training advisor on a monthly basis to assess and review my work towards the qualification, to ensure that I am making the correct progress while at the same time providing any additional educational support. My advisor is contactable by phone and by email when I need any help on any units. The qualification has allowed me to expand on my existing knowledge which has helped me in my day to day job
I receive constant support from my employer. My team leader and fellow team members are constantly willing to assist whenever needed and during the beginning of my apprenticeship they ensured that I underwent a smooth and effective transition into the workplace and into the job itself.
My salary meets my current costs comfortably.
There are some opportunities outside of work, there have been discussions between the other apprentices about organising events for charity, as well as other initiatives, such as a tag rugby event being organised recently between colleagues across site with correspondence being sent out via email, to gain an insight into the initial interest of running something like it regularly.
