Working in the environment, health and safety department I am involved in various levels of performance management. I am also involved in incident investigations, assessments and projects while working towards my NEBOSH diploma and SVQ level4
I have gained my Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment Certificate and have become a practitioner member of IEMA (PIEMA) as well as my NEBOSH certificate - I am currently planning on joining the institute of occupational safety and health with this qualification. I have also completed my SVQ3 in Occupational Health and Safety (currently working on level 4) and I am starting my NEBOSH diploma. Since starting my communication and presentation skills have improved along with other soft skills such as time keeping and project management. I have attended an outward bound course with other apprentices from the global network from my year group which helped build on these soft skills as well as giving us the opportunity to speak to and meet likeminded apprentices in similar or totally different job roles.
I enjoy the work I do and I find it extremely fulfilling to be able to see part of my work being implemented on a site level. The team that I work with are all very supportive and are great at answering questions, demonstrating our safety systems and explaining the processes on site.
I am constantly getting feedback from my line manager and peers within and outwith my department. I have also gained recognition outwith the site through news articles about the progress of my apprenticeship. I have also had various projects which have since been implemented on site
I have a four year plan set out and broken down into quarters. Every 3 months I am focussing on a different area and all of this has been planned out in advance.
I have face to face meetings with my assessor every 6-8 weeks at a minimum along with emails and phone calls in between to see how I am progressing and to help with any areas that I may be struggling with.
I receive constant support from my manager and my team to ensure that I am developing and learning as much as possible within the 4 year period that I am an apprentice
Due to me still living with my parents I have very few outgoings meaning that my salary is more than enough to live comfortably. I only live a 16 mile drive away from work so this isn't intensive on time, fuel or car maintenance
Yes, the local community has plenty of places to go outwith work including social events and leisure facilities

GSK is a forward thinking, constantly developing company who has a constant focus on meeting the demand for high quality pharmaceutical products to ensure that the consumer at the end of the supply chain has the ability to do more, feel better and live longer.
As with any job application it is extremely important to learn a bit about the company and, in particular, the specific site that you are applying for. The GSK website has a lot of information about what each site does and what each apprenticeship programme is like including information provided by current apprentices who describe the on boarding and application experience.
