I am a electrical Engineer apprentice, My day to day jobs include fixing motors, lights and anything powered by electricity, I also carry out routine maintenance on items around the factory to prevent breakdowns. I am now in my third year and have some responsibility although not as much as I would like, I get trusted to go set up and work on jobs by myself although have been pushing my manager for more complex jobs as I feel I can push myself to be better.
Yes I have learned a vast amount of skills while being an apprentice, I have achieved a HNC in electrical engineering and currently working towards a HND, I have also gained a huge amount of hand skills while working and these skills are transferable to everyday life.
I used to love the programme when I first started but recently since new year I find it hard to enjoy work with the current situation I have been put in. I feel like we used to work as a team and that is when I loved my work and couldn't fault it one bit but now we are all working as individuals and not as a team and its a very hostile atmosphere to work in.
I feel valued by the company itself but not at all as part of a team. I used to feel very valued and really appreciate all the help I got at GSK but now I feel as if I don't get enough credit for work I do. I feel I should of been better rewarded for the work put in over the past year and I feel as if I am being held back from reaching my potential due to circumstances out with my control.
The programme is very well structured but could be better and my manager has taken on board all the improved suggestions put forward and I feel that the apprentices below me will really benefit.
I feel the support is sufficient
I feel as if I could have been better supported from GSK especially recently.
I feel the other apprentices my year are on an acceptable wage but due to disciplinary action I am still being punished 2 years on. I feel there are plenty of opportunity's to earn overtime but I currently don't get access to them down to not being able to give to one apprentice without the other although I work much harder and feel I deserve better treatment.
Gsk is a very social company and we get a lot of invites to social events although some of them could be better located in Scotland rather than most in London.

I feel GSK is a world recognised employer and I feel pride when I say I work with GSK and to know the work I do no matter how small it makes an impact in someone life by helping them life longer feel better and achieve better than how they would if it weren't for the medicine we provide
Research the amazing work the company do and make sure you are prepared with knowing what products are made on the site you are applying for. GSK offer plenty of advancement opportunities within the company so even if you fall out of love with your job there will always be another opportunity within GSK to help you find the motivation to want to better yourself.
