Signal Maintenance Apprentice: -Attending classes to creat a basis for future learning -Taking responsibility for my learning.
Developed my wiring skills and brushed up on maths which hasn't been used in a while.
I find the learning experience tedious as for the first part of the program I do not learn my actual job and feel somewhat patronised by the system.
The company have invested a lot in my training, including providing accommodation, meals and training for part of my course. Therefore I feel that they place a lot of value in me. Until I get through the initial 5 months, I feel I won't receive actual recognition for my work.
So far it feels fairly well structured considering the set up of the first 5 months.
I have received adequate support so far and feel that when I start performing my actual job role, I will receive excellent support whilst I am learning.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. Consistent approach across all members of admin and management.
Salary is fair for initial 5 months, and certainly fair for school leavers and apprentices without commitments. However, would advise any apprentices with commitments such as rent/bills etc to ensure they balance their finances properly before starting.
Currently, due to the training environment and being on apprentice wages, there is not a lot of opportunities outside of work. However the training centre provides games consoles, a bar with pool tables, a gym with pool and TVs around the centre as well as in resident rooms.
Yes
Whilst the initial low wages may cause some to struggle and the initial learning experience is tedious, the opportunities once you pass the apprenticeship are excellent.
Make sure you read each of the job roles carefully, research them externally and ensure you pick the right one for you. Don't be afraid to have a back up. Get your finances in order.
