On a monday we have a college day, on this day we learn: Further maths, Electronic Principles, Health and Safety, Technical Drawing, Communications and PLC's. Tuesday - Friday is spent in the workshop learning relevant skills from the basics: in Electrical, Electroincs, PLC, Hand fitting, machining and mechanical.
Throughout the apprenticeship I have learnt new skills and developed exsisting skills When I first started the apprenticeship I had no experiecne when working with PLC's now I feel confident working with them and I feel I can pass on my knowledge to others if they are struggling with a task.
I extremly enjoy the programme, as it has helped my develop and given me more self confidence. From the time spent in the workshop my team work has improved and I have helped other when struggling with differnt task.
I feel a valued member by the BMW Group because the manager and other members of staff are willing to help and want to push you to progress in your learning. I also feel a valued member as everyone is treated equally.
The programme within the workshop is well structured and organised as it is clear what jobs need to be completed and enought time is given to complete all of the task. The BTEC programme could be structured/ organised. The sheet which gives studetns results could be updated more often so that gives a representation of the students progress.
Every week on a Tuesday and Wednesday I get more support in maths and more support is given during the lessons on a monday if it is needed. On a tuesday I think the suppport given could be improved by going through a specific worksheet. All the tutors are willing to help if I begin to struggle.
I have a review with my manager every 3 months to look at my progress and we discuss how I can improve during BTEC and within the workshop. From the reviews it is clear that my employer is willing to support even if it is a problem outside of the workplace whic is effecing my performance.
The salary meets my cost very well as i dont drive it leaves me with a large amount of money to spend during the month. This allows me to go places with my friends and family and enjoy going to specical events.
At the start of the course a few opporunites were given. One is to take part in World-skills event, this allows further learning which will benfit yourself later in the apprenticeship. Another opportunity given is the mountain challenge, this is event helps you develop your team skills.
Yes
I would recommend BMW group to a friend becuase the standard of teaching is great and all members of staff are willing to help to extend your knowledge and level of skills. BMW also offer a good car scheme and discounts on vehicles for family and friends.
One piece of advice that I would recommend is take part in any after school activies or volunteering as it shows you are willing to work and willing to develop your skills talk about these activies within your intewrviw and during the application process. While taking part at the assessment centre make sure you are taking part and show exactly what you can offer the business.
