I am involved on a daily basis, talking to clients from our offices or at a client site, to understand their business affairs and discuss how the tax rules apply to them. I spend some of your time working in a team to complete tax returns on behalf of our clients, while keeping up-to-date with tax legislation so I can understand how it affects our clients.
I am studying towards my Att qualification whilst also learning on the job skills every day in the office. PwC also run internal training sessions which are really useful for specific areas of tax. For example, i have learnt deadlines for a company to pay their tax due to HMRC amongst many other things which i apply everyday.
I thoroughly enjoy working with the team at PwC. Everyone is focused and driven to achieve the best they can which encourages you to work well within the team, everyone is willing to help you achieve your own goals. The programme has exceeded my expectations and i couldn't ask for a better employer.
Hard work and dedication is recognised within the team. Opportunities arise from the effort shown by people and good appraisal is always given where due. There are some fantastic opportunities to work on some really cool clients and speak to some interesting people that you wouldn't normally be able to do in a standard job.
The support and training we receive is to a very good standard, from day one i could see the wider picture and how i was going to fit into the team. You are given a buddy and people manager to answer any questions you may have throughout your time at PwC.
For my Att qualification, i am given both external and internal support and guidance. The attitude towards supporting people is of a friendly nature and you are encouraged to speak up if your are struggling. Support is on the other side of the desk, on the end of the phone and on the reply of an email! Anyone you ask will either have a solution or know someone else who does.
There are a number of support personal. Firstly, you have your buddy who is someone who has taken the same path as you before. This person is really useful to ask small on the job questions like how to do a specific task or how best to approach work. Then you have your people manager who is there to overlook your progression and career to ensure that everything is working for you and if not, why ? A solution is then put in place to benefit you and the team.
The salary and package is comprehensive. All business related costs are met by the employer and the salary is in line with competitors of the firm. There is opportunities for promotion and bonuses which are achieved through hard work and dedication during the year. Your performance is then assessed during the moderation period and a decision is made surrounding remuneration.
There are always opportunities to go and try something new outside of work. PwC support any activity you can think of and have faith in their people. There is often classes after work in the office and activities at leisure centres such as football, netball and cricket which are open to everyone inclusively for all abilities!
Yes
I wake up each morning and look forward to going to work, each task is completely different which makes my job very engaging. There is never a dull moment on the job and all the people you work with are like minded who also enjoy working here! The opportunities within the firm are endless and very much attainable with the right approach.
My piece of advice for people applying to the programme would be to prepare for all stages of the application process. Everyone you meet wants you to get the job so don't be nervous! Relax and do your best. The on boarding process can be daunting but take it in your stride, the assessment days are very much looking to see how you behave as a person rather than to assess any technical skills other than maths and English.
