My job title at present is Assistant Tax Adviser. My daily roles generally are completing my team's client tracker & during busy seasons, I have to complete XML files for our clients. Sometimes have to complete some engagement admin to help client acceptance.
Yes, while I have not received any qualifications as of yet, I have learnt some general tax points like Annual Investment Allowance & Capital Allowances from internal training. I have also learnt a rough process of setting up engagement codes & billing clients.
The team I work with are all very supportive & enjoy working with them all. The work that I'm doing seems valuable as I believe some of it will develop skills that I can use later in the process. The programme has met my expectations & I'm enjoying it a lot
I feel like my contribution is valued by some of the team members which I personally feel is important as I can predict how I think my performance is & where I can improve. For example, myself & a manager both assist on the client trackers. We both feel valued when this is completed consistently.
The course is generally well structured. Most of my time is spent in the office which is good as I'm gaining work experience. Training is normally quite consistent throughout the year at relevant times. College perhaps could be slightly better structured as there tend be very uneven gaps between courses but I appreciate the time we get to study before exams as well.
I feel the support in place is very helpful in ensuring I can do my best. My counsellor advises what the best things would be in providing support. The support provided also satisfies my needs & what I think
My team have been supportive in the earlier stages about how to approach & tackle problems & have invested their time so that I can get up to speed with what my team does & how I can fit in.
Generally fine. Rent, food, living, social & travel costs are just about covered by my salary.
There are a few opportunities outside of work. There are a few work socials at the pub during the course of the year which I usually attend. Sometimes I will be doing extra activities which are not related to EY but which I enjoy doing
Yes
I feel EY provide an alternate route into employment which provides on the job experience as well as qualifications & support provided to assist you.
Just follow the usual steps when applying & going to interviews & assessment days. There's nothing unusual about it & nothing to catch you out. Be prepared to work but don't let your previous experience govern your decision. Anybody can join regardless of their background.
