I am an access field technician and my daily tasks include fault fixing and installing virgin media services as well as a variety of other jobs. i had a high level of communication with both my colleagues and managers. I spoke to customers daily as my job is a customer facing role. alongside my normal daily role charity work is an important part of the apprenticeship.
i have learnt countless new skills, such as using tools and learning our network. I have now gained a qcf level 2 qualification, and i have also improved upon my interpersonal skills and become more confident within myself which means i am more confortable in the working environment and i feel much better with asking questions and getting more out of my apprenticeship
the job itself is never boring, every job is different and exciting, and i am always surrounded with bubbly and enthusiastic people who are passionate about their job and our company. The team i work with are extremely supportive especially the managers. Virgin medias values are shown in any role, but particularly by our managers who encourage fun, honesty, and integrity. this apprenticeship exceeded all expectations i have had about any working role or educational programme, i have thoroughly enjoyed it
My managers are always very supportive and are very consistent in praising good work and virgin medias ethics, they also run many incentive schemes throughout the apprenticeship and also push you to get recognised within the rest of the business. i was offered to lead a few projects as a reward for my success and they were extremely supportive throughout. I have felt extremely valued in this year and had a lot of doors opened for me in return for hard work.
The apprenticeship is very well structured, there is a lot of learning to be done in a short time frame, but with a great induction and support at literally any time of day (even 3am!) from managers and mentors, any questions you ask are answered straight away. the heirarchy issimple making it easy to speak to the right people. which helps with how well the programme is organised.
endless, to put it simple. It feels like they support you because they want you to succeed, not because its their job to. I think that the training providers give you all the help and support that you need. You never feel belittled by anyone at Virgin Media and everyone seems really friendly and offers their help and advice if you seem lost with work or not look like you know what you're doing!
Same as above really. Everyone at work supports you because they want you to succeed, not because its their job to. My employer occasionally asks me how i am and we usually have short, informal meetings to go over my progress and how i am feeling within my job role at VM. They also ask about my wellbeing and health and if the company is doing enough for me too.
Virgin Medias apprenticeship wage (i believe) is higher than most. I think it is very high for an apprenticeship which is an excellent motive to do well and continue with work and studies. I think that although the salary is not as good as full time employees, for apprentices it is really good seeing as though the education is all paid for!
i have been to many outside events, awards, schools, colleges. and we also get benefits to use our health clubs too which is really handy. I try to go out and socialise with work groups as i can as i want to get involved and become closer with staff at VM so i don't feel left out and not knowing anything about any of my co-workers! I enjoy the events i have already been too.
Yes
It's a fantastic company to work for, where your face is valued and you are well rewarded for working hard, you are not just a number, and you will always have support to further your career. The employees are so helpful and friendly and you are sure you make some friends for life here as well. The overall skills, wage and experience you get from this apprenticeship is excellent.
Be yourself, work hard, ensure you are up to date on what the company provides and the services we give. Be smart (but don't wear a tie!) and ensure you act friendly towards the interviewers. Ensure you know about the apprenticeship scheme itself and the advantages of joining it over other career paths/options such as university and joining similar companies etc.
