  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day tasks involve: Editing, checking, designing drawing packs. Wire cubicles, solder cables. Learn new technologies, training courses.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt to solder, to wiring up cubicles such as new Westcad technology and old legacy equipment. Learnt how to use new CAD packages. On training courses I have learnt how to be a tester on the rail side, and in signal boxes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship, I feel a part of something in my department, I have been given my own responsibilities whilst working here, which means that I'm a part of the cog which is the department now. There is a varied age group and get on with all

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • Since working for Siemens I feel that I have been giving my own responsibilities, which shows my manager trusts me, and feels they can give me specific jobs, and then leaving me to complete the job unless I need advice. I am always being given opportunities to network, and learn in many specific roles.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured in my opinion. The first year I was in attendance at college, learning physical and mental skills. Which set me up going into the second year which I was in work putting these into practice. Just before the second year, I was given rail specific knowledge just before I started in the business too. We have 6 weekly meetings with our training manager, and can go to the training manager or my line manager depending on the issue

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As stated 6 weekly meetings with my training manager show that they want to keep track of progress, and ensure we're progressing at the correct pace. They take interest with college work, and make sure that is going fine as expected. I do feel their support throughout the entire apprenticeship.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is great, they try to get me to experience every opportunity possible, whether that being going on site, or taking on a new task at the workplace. Hr has always been supportive when I require assistance, however saying that I haven't need much assistance due to the ease of access into the company

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is well paid I feel for an apprenticeship. For a slightly older apprentice at 23, I feel that I can manage with the amount I'm getting paid, without having to worry too much.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of opportunities, with STEM events, going to many signal boxes, and learning on site experiences.

  • 9. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel this apprenticeship is great, I feel I have learnt so much in such a short time, and looking forward to what the future has in store. The pay, the support, and the knowledge i get and received in second to none.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • During the interview process you may be required to show hands on skills, such as wiring a plug socket and performing team building activities. There is also a maths and English exam to perform during the application process.
