I am an apprentice aircraft fitter, my day to day role involves constructing aircraft components that there then shipped to assembly centre around the world. I have various responsibilities which as an apprentice are very high so you have to take your role seriously in such an environment.
I have learnt and developed various skills since starting here at BAE Systems. I will achieve ONC, HNC, HND qualifications once I have finished my time here as an apprentice. not only that, I will also receive my papers to become a time served apprentice.
I really enjoy the program and the work involved. the reaction you get from the outside community tells you all that you need to know when you tell them what kind of work you do, it makes you realise how lucky you really are. the team that I work within are wonderful and treat you and everyone like one big family. it excelled my expectations .
since my very first day starting at BAE Systems, the managers have always made you feel welcome, never treated myself different to the other employees within the company. we are involved in task not only within the work place but also in the external region of our area, with the opportunities spread evenly within our community.
the induction was very good once starting at the site, they gave you a very thorough induction that didn't drag on and gave you all of the specifics that you needed. additional sup[port, which I didn't need, was always offered on a regular basis incase I needed it whether with college work or with work itself.
the training and college providers are excellent. they are always supportive and available on weekends if ever needed. when a problem may occur, they always do there best to help out or rectify the problem if it is within there means.

the cost of living and travel is rather a lot but the pay is reflected in that, especially in the later years. the travelli8ng expenses when on a business meeting are always covered also and provide myself with hire cars or another mode of transport if needed.
the events outside the companies are massive. the company always promotes education road show, going into schools, air show providers and other STEM events. within the local area there are proud sporting attractions within hull and various facilities to use.
Yes
I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone because of the experience that I have had. sometimes the jobs can be abit long , or drag out but 9/10 times the work i9s enjoyable and challenging always making yourself to want to strive to progress and get better.
if I was to give advice to other signing up to join the company I would say be yourself and be honest as the company will find you out one way or another. they love it if you have done volunteering work in the community before or have been involved within a team.
