My role involves processing invoices and paperwork ensuring people get their wages on time and companies get paid for their supplied goods. I am also required to attend meetings, and perform other ad hoc duties. I also ensure that financial reconciliations are completed every month and all entries are genuine transactions.
I have learnt to become more proactive in my approach to speaking out my ideas, and not being afraid to contribute to any discussions in meetings. This has helped my play key roles in projects involving transfer of IT systems, and indirectly helping me to be recognized in my team. My knowledge of finance has also increased and allowed me to learn about payroll taxes.
My Duties are pretty much the same from month to month, therefore can get stale, however as my duties involve variable factors, and time limits are very strict as people want their pay checks, I am constantly working towards strict timelines therefore it makes my work more engaging. My work requires constant planning to make sure i can meet the deadline i have been set, which also makes the work more engaging.
At the end of the day i am an employee at apprentice level, therefore i know i am realistically expendable at board level, as their are other employees who have more knowledge and experience. However within my team i do feel valued by my manager who is encouraging and is fair most of the time. There are also times when i have had to stay behind at work, for which i was given recognition for.
My programe is well organised, i have been given a good deal of training from me joining, to ongoing development seminars after gaining a decent level of experience. I always have to support of my colleges and manager for any day to day queries that i may have. I also have the option to go on courses if i feel they will add value to me. I am also delegated new aspects of work every so often increasing my knowledge of the job at a steady rate.
My training provider has given me a good level of guidance in resolving issues, and the presentations have been fairly engaging. Any questions i had were answered satisfactorily and i understood what was being said. The presentations themselves had a good balance of talking and reliance on slides. The content of slides themselves was fairly good. Overall the training regime is pretty good, as they are paid by BT so depend on income by providing good courses.
I have received a good level of support from my provider, and i have been proactively given opportunities for development which is encouraging. There are programs that i can go on which could potentially allow me to further my career, and allow me to progress onto a more senior role. As mentioned previously i always have continued support from colleagues and managers with any work related questions.
As i live at home with my parents i have a good level of disposable income, therefore i am comfortable with my salary package. This allows me to have enough money to travel to work, and meet all of my social needs as well as allowing me to buy work clothes and dine out regularly. I also reside approximately 45 mins from work therefore my travel times are fairly good.
People are always up for going to the bar after work, and there are socials that are arranged as well which gives me opportunities to socialize with colleagues in a social setting. I think these opportunities gives me a chance to develop my network within the organisation outside of my department.
Yes
BT is a growing organisation, looking to expand into many markets such as media and mobile telecoms, therefore i think its a good time to join the team. I think this may give you an opportunity for progression within the firm, or potentially leave you with options to further you're career outside the firm. As a result of expansion there are also many more types of jobs opening up within BT therefore if you wanted you could potentially transfer careers internally.
Make sure you proof read questions answered on the application. Having small grammatical errors will probably sift you out at this stage. During the Interview process all i can suggest is to relax and not take it to seriously as there are many other jobs out there! BT is an organisation worth applying to as there are many opportunities to grow within the organisation.
